Haitian soccer has been improving for the past 10 years, and with time, Haiti has the potential to surpass the feats of the 1974 national team, a qualification for FIFA World Cup 2006 is feasible, but if Haiti continues to improve World Cup 2010 will not be a dream, but a reallity.

From August 1993 to January 2003 Haiti has moved from 139th to 73rd in the FIFA World Ranking, thus 66 places in less than 10 years. The worst Haiti has ever been ranked is 155th on January 1996 and the best, was last month, December 2002 were Haiti ranked 71st thus 84 places in less than 7 years. If Haiti, simply continues at the same momentum the national team could reach the top 50 group within 2 to 4 years. The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 19 February 2003, Haiti?s absence from international competition will cost them a few spots, but with the scheduled friendly against Peru at the end of February and Gold Cup Caribbean qualifiers in March, Haiti will have the chance to move up in the ranking. The matches considered in the ranking points calculations are:
? World Cup finals matches
? World Cup preliminary matches
? Continental championship final matches
? Continental championship preliminary matches
? FIFA Confederations Cup matches
? Friendly matches
Haiti has had successful runs in the Copa Caribe (now called Gold Cup Caribbean) in the past few years, and qualified for both Gold Cup 2000 and Gold Cup 2002, where they reached the quarter-finals of the competition. This year Haitian soccer fans are nervous about the recent shuffle of the head coaching position. Jorge Casteli, then Caétano Rodriguez abandoned the head coaching seat in a short period of time. Until further notice as of January 23rd 2003, the Haitian national team will be under the supervision of Juan Amador Sanchez et Pablo Irving. The only consistency is that all the coaches are from Argentina.
