Haiti is taking part in Venezuela International sports congress in "Medicine & Science Applied to Sports" as part of the development of the 11th University Sports Games in Central America and the Caribbean
Caracas, May 25 (Prensa Latina) As part of the development of the 11th University Sports Games in Central America and the Caribbean, Venezuela will host a scientific congress, ?Medicine and Science Applied to Sports?, an official source announced Thursday.
Ninoska Cloisier, head of the Venezuelan Sports Institute´s medical division, said that the first stage will begin May 30 at the Central University of Venezuela and the second in Carabobo on June 2.
?This event´s objective is to provide information and bring knowledge of sciences up-to-date as applied to sports, for a better performance,? she said.
The arrival of 700 journalists from 12 nations to cover the Central American and Caribbean event was expected today. The event will start tomorrow, Friday and continue until June 12.
Among the countries that have confirmed attendance are Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dutch Antilles, Guatemala, Honduras,
Haiti, Nicaragua, Panama, Dominican Republic, US Virgin Islands, and host Venezuela.
There will be competitions in track and field, basketball, judo, ping-pong, and volleyball in both sexes. Competitions in baseball, soccer, and indoor soccer will be only for men.
Technical congresses will be held on Friday, May 26, and the official inauguration ceremony will be at 6 PM local time.
The regional University Sports Organization, formed by the nations attending here, plus Mexico, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica and El Salvador, holds these games every two years.
