Haiti and St. Vincent & Grenadines gain Caribbean Second Round Berths

2.10.06 - Haiti and St. Vincent & The Grenadines gained berths to the next round of the 2007 Digicel Caribbean Cup after finishing first and second, respectively, at Group D First Round in Kingston, Jamaica on Sunday.

Five goals by Shandel Samuels and one each from Andrew Douglas, Renson Haynes and Wesley John led St. Vincent & The Grenadines (2-1-0, 6 Points) to an 8:0 victory over St. Lucia (0-3-0, 0 Points) on Sunday at the National Stadium in Kingston.

In the other Group D encounter, Fabian Dawkins and Wilfred Smith scored for Jamaica (2-1-0, 6 Points) in the 2:0 win against Haiti (2-1-0, 6 Points), but the reggae boyz were eliminated from the Digicel Caribbean Cup as they lost the tiebreakers to the Haitians (goal difference) and the vincy heat (head-to-head).

The Digicel Cup is the Caribbean Qualification to the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup? that will take place in the USA from 6-24 June.

The elimination of the three-time Caribbean Champions also marks the first time since 2002 that Jamaica does not compete at the CONCACAF Gold Cup?.

Haiti and St. Vincent & The Grenadines will join Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Bahamas, Bermuda, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Martinique and Surinam in the second round of the 2007 Digicel Caribbean Cup taking place during October and November 2006 at venues to be announced.
