The Haitian Grenadiers are ready for their 2nd battle in the Digicel Caribbean Cup. Seven teams out of 12 will qualify for the final round of the digicel Caribbean Cup hosted by Caribbean World Cup 2006 finalist, Trinidad and Tobago. CONCACAF recently announced that 4 spots will be available to the Caribbean region for Gold Cup 2007 hosted by USA, thus the top 4 teams of the Digicel Final round will qualify. The teams battling to reach the final round of 8 (7 plus Trinidad & Tobago) are grouped as follows:

Haiti will be facing Cuba, the toughest opponent of the group on November 8th, 2006 at 6:00 PM ET. Cuba eliminated Haiti from the last Gold Cup in 2005 and the two teams played a couple of friendlies in Haiti, first match Haiti 0:0 Cuba; second match Haiti 0:1 Cuba with Lionel St-Preux of Zenith Cap Haitien missing a penalty kick. Haiti was without their NT players playing in foreign leagues, 5 staters in total:

We should also note that Haitian Striker Jean-Phillipe Peguero of Brondby in Danmark is still recovering from an injury. In round 1, Eliphene Cadet was not available due to Injury but he's now healthy and scoring. He's very likely to make the trip to Martinique. We expect a slight variation from the team that help eliminate Jamaica. In round 1 the Grenadiers were represented by:

I truly don't see how we could miss qualifying for the Gold Cup. We have to be the best 7 out of those 11 teams:
Cuba,
Bahamas,
Barbados,
Bermuda,
St. Vincent & The Grenadines
Antigua & Barbuda,
Dominican Republic,
Guadeloupe,
Guyana
Martinique,
Surinam
Only Cuba should be a threat. Jamaica got knocked out, so the 4 favorites to reach the Gold Cup are:
Trinidad & Tobago
Cuba
Haiti
Last pace to: St-Vincent, Martinique and the rest of them...)

La sélection haïtienne enfin partie
Quarante huit heures avant la rencontre devant la mettre aux prises avec Cuba dans le groupe I des éliminatoires de la « Digicel Caraibbean Cup », la sélection nationale haïtienne de football devrait laisser le pays, ce lundi, à destination de la Martinique.
Une délégation de 19 personnes dont 17 joueurs devraient laisser Haïti lundi à destination de la Martinique où la sélection nationale haïtienne de football disputera le deuxième tour des éliminatoires de la « Digicel Caraibbean Cup » dans le groupe I du 8 au 12 novembre prochain.
Deux gardiens de buts, cinq défenseurs, six milieux de terrain et six attaquants composent cette sélection de 19 joueurs en tout qui évoluera en Martinique. Les deux autres joueurs devraient rejoindre les dix-sept premiers à la Martinique.
Stéphane Guillaume et Jamil Jean Jacques seront bien du nombre des sélectionnés qui laisseront Haïti. Arrivés la semaine dernière en Haïti après une tournée en Australie avec leur Club Miami FC, ils sont prêts à rentrer dans l'effectif de Carlo Marcelin en vue de rafler un des deux billets en jeu dans ce groupe I. Vainqueur de deux rencontres en Australie, les coéquipiers de Romario se disent plus où moins prêts pour l'aventure.
Dans la rubrique des incertains, deux cas restent encore pendant pour les sélectionnés : le cas de Josué Mayard qui doit venir de Norvège et celui de Fabrice Noël qui doit avoir une autorisation de son Club pour être du voyage. Pour le premier, il y a tout simplement un problème de billet pour le ramener depuis la Norvège à la Martinique. "Nous n'avons pas d'argent pour lui acheter les billets", a laissé entendre le président de la Fédération haïtienne de football, Yves"Dadou'Jean Bart joint par téléphone, lundi.
Pour le cas de Fabrice c'est tout simplement du à son statut aux Etats-Unis qui l'empêchent de faire le déplacement en Haïti en vue du Visa français. Etant donné qu'il a su pouvoir être disponible dimanche soir, les chemins pour que le visa Français lui parvienne sont vraiment trop long ce qui fait que la compétition pourrait finir avant qu'il ne l'obtienne.
Par contre Il ne faudra pas fantasmer sur la possibilité que Pierre Jean Jacques rejoigne la Sélection nationale en Martinique. Déterminant dans son Club du FC Nantes depuis trois semaines, le Léogânais qui vient d'être titularisés deux fois de suite pour une victoire et un match nul, s'avère être une pièce maîtresse de la défense de la formation nantaise ces derniers jours, ce qui fait qu'il ne rentre vraiment pas dans le plan des responsables techniques de ce club de le libérer, d'autant que les matches de la « Caraibbean Digicel Cup », s'organisent en dehors des journées de la fifa. Carlo Marcelin devra donc se se passer de lui.
Carlo Marcelin devra se passer aussi des services de Tullien Romulus et de Ricardo Pierre Louis. Brillant avant l'ICS, Ricardo Pierre Louis vient de se qualifier pour la finale de conférence en national ce qui fait que son équipe ne lui donnera pas le code de route nécessaire à sa participation. Tullien Romulus se trouve dans un cas presqu'analogue vue que s'il n'est pas aussi concerné par la compétition que Ricardo, il n'a pas pu obtenir le code de route nécessaire pour le voyage
Blessé, Peguerro Jean Philippe ne sera pas non plus de la partie. L'attaquant de Bronby, qui ne reprendra la compétition qu'en avril 2007 ne pourra rentrer dans les plans de Carlo Marcelin que lors de la phase finale de la Gold Cup a condition qu'Haïti obtienne le billet pour cette compétition.
La sélection haïtienne entre en lice ce mercredi en affrontant Cuba pour sa première sortie. Ensuite elle jouera contre le pays hôte vendredi avant de conclure sa ronde des éliminatoires contre les Bermudes. Un calendrier qui pourrait faire l'affaire des protégés de l'entraîneur, Carlo Marcelin dans la mesure où ils sont contraints de jouer d'entrée une formation difficile mais avec toute leur fraîcheur, avant d'aller un peu descrescendo pouvant alors gérer le rythme des trois rencontres en l'espace d'une semaine. Une victoire mercredi mettrait la sélection nationale sur la bonne voie pour une éventuelle qualification et si elle parvenait à s'imposer la Martinique vendredi lors de la deuxième rencontre, le billet serait dans la poche en attendant d'affronter les Bermudes dimanche.
Il est à préciser que les deux premières de chaque poule seront qualifiés pour la ronde finale. Le 3e disputera les barrages en vue de tenter une énième chance de se qualifier..

It is unbelievable for a Haitian National team to be eliminated by Cuba & Martinique.. Teams we used to crushed in the past. How can anyone tell me or try to explain that The FHF is doing a good job and Football is getting better in Haiti... Bull and thank you Yves Bart for taking Haitian Football to the ashes and buried it......
I love football and try every way possible to support Haitian Football but I think it is time we need a new vision and search for a new leader that can lead us to the promise land...

I must say that you're right, I tried to defend the FHF but they can't get the job done. They have good intentions and I'm glad haiti is participating in all categories of football in both Men and women but they are simply incompetent.
I still believe in the players, they just were not used properly. The FHF is to blame, not having money to buy a plane ticket for Josue Mayard and not getting Fabrice Noel visa planned ahead of time is pure mediocrity. Carlo Marcelin is also to blame, not having the right shoes for the game against Cuba is both the FHF and Carlo's responsibility. Carlo also failed to properly use and prepare the players in the game against Martinique.
Haiti could still reach the final round by finishing 3rd place and winning the playoff but the FHF and Carlo have been exposed as incompetent.

I do not have any word, I just can't understand brothers. I did not expect us to be at that level, so low that we can't even get a second place playing teams as Cuba,Martinique, and Surinam what a desaster for my country.
I expect us to get a weaping from Surinam.

There are no other qualified and honest people in Haiti to do the job that the FHF is doing. Despite their flaws the FHF expressed a strategy of getting our youths exposed to the international level early. Yes we have a good U-17 team and U-20 and most of those players start in the 1st division. We even have an U-19 Women team.
