Soccer Fairleigh Dickinson University senior Elkana "Donny" Mayard

Mayard Selected to 2006 NSCAA/adidas Senior College Scholar All-America Soccer Team
Fairleigh Dickinson University senior Elkana "Donny" Mayard (Laval, Canada) was selected to the 2006 NSCAA/adidas Senior College Men?s Scholar All-America Soccer Team.
In recognition of the honor, Mayard is invited to join fellow Scholar All-Americas from the high school and college ranks to be honored during our All-America Luncheon at the Marriott Hotel in Indianapolis, IN, held as part of the 60th Annual NSCAA Convention on Saturday, January 13, 2007. This is the World?s Largest Annual Gathering of Soccer Coaches and the largest soccer convention in the world. The standout defender was named to the 2006 NSCAA/adidas College Men Scholar All-East Region First Team.
At the end of the fall season, Mayard was named to the All-NEC First Team after being a staple in the backfield and helping anchor the Knights into a national ranking season. He was a second team pick his junior year and has been the leader of an FDU defensive unit that was nearly impenetrable in 2006. The Knights only allowed nine goals all season - just a mere four in NEC play- and ranked in the NCAA top-10 in goals against average, save percentage and shutout percentage. Mayard also contributed offensively with two goals and an assist.
Another FDU men's soccer player, Nadav Gottesman, won the same award in 2005-06, making this the second straight year that there is a Fairleigh Dickinson recipient.
Mayard also earned honors on the NSCAA All-North Atlantic Region First team. Sophomore Alejandro Bedoya (Weston, FL) shared First Team honors, while freshman Samson Malijani (Lusaka, Zambia) received Third Team accolades.
Malijani was voted NEC Men's after winning the Brine/NEC Rookie of the Week honor three times. He paced all conference freshman with seven goals and 18 points and was tied for the league lead with five game-winning goals. The Knights were 5-0 when Malijani scored.
Bedoya also earned a spot on the NEC First Team after his second-straight outstanding season for the Knights. He finished the season second on the team and eighth in the conference with 15 points on five goals and five assists.
The Knights' season ended in the NEC Tournament semifinals, ending the season with a 9-5-4 overall record after dropping only one conference game during the regular season (6-1-2).
