Pro League Clubs frustrated by Caribbean Football Union (CFU) postponement
Wednesday, 20 December 2006
TTproLeague.com
The Caribbean Football Union, organizers of the Caribbean Club Championships 2006, have postponed the semifinal round of matches that was originally scheduled to be played in Trinidad on Thursday and Saturday of this week.
The four semifinalists now have to wait for another month before they can get the ball rolling again in the Caribbean tournament.
Jerry HospidalesPro League clubs CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh and Vibe CT 105 W Connection who both topped their respective groups would be playing at home to the likes of Harbour View of Jamaica and Haitian club Baltimore Sportif respectively.
Both local clubs are however, are not too pleased with the decision to postpone the tournament, Jabloteh?s Chairman Jerry Hospedales told ?ttproleague.com?, ?No reason whatsoever was given for the postponement and this is gross incompetence by the CFU. It is a matter of good planning and since last year when we qualified for this tournament, and we were supposed to know when and where the matches would be held.?
?Only in November we learnt that we had to go to St Thomas, US Virgin Islands and only on Sunday of this week we were told the semifinals were to be played in Trinidad on Thursday and Saturday, but this has now changed.?
?The CFU must understand we have sponsors and they don?t just hand out money just like that. In a competition like this, teams need money and the CFU don?t provide costs for traveling or hotels.?
?This is our off period and with the Digicel and CFU Tournaments taking place now, it is really a disappointment to see the way things are being handled.?
?The CFU need to get their act in order and a better managed administrative part of the business because I am very upset,? ended the disappointed Jabloteh Chairman.
David John WilliamsWhile W Connection?s Chairman David John Williams preferred to remain mum on the organization of the competition, but told ?ttproleague.com?, ?We would have liked to have the tournament concluded before Christmas but we are professionals and would just have to go by the dates organized by the CFU,? said Williams briefly.

Soccer Trinidad: Wim gets to keep top players

Wim gets to keep top players
Wednesday, December 20 2006
TRINIDAD and Tobago football team coach Wim Rijsbergen will have his full complement of players from CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh and W Connection after all.
It was feared that he would have to release the footballers from their current five-day training camp at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva because of club commitments.
However the Caribbean Club Championships have been pushed back to late January allowing the players to remain in camp.
Both Connection and Jabloteh will face Jamaica?s Harbour View and Haiti?s Baltimore Sportif respectively on January 26. The championship match of the CFU Club Championship will be played on January 28 at a venue to be announced.
Preparations for the Trinidad and Tobago?s participation at the Digicel Caribbean Cup from January 12 continued at the Ato Boldon Stadium yesterday but without the players from the two top local clubs.
For the remainder of the week though, Rijsbergen can expect to have Aurtis Whitley, Kerry Baptiste, Keyeno Thomas, Trent Noel, Anthony and Glenton Wolfe Silvio Spann, Cyd Gray, Nigel Daniel and Jan Michael Williams back in the squad.
Assistant coach Anton Corneal said yesterday?s session offered an opportunity to take a closer look at players, some called up for national duty for the first time.
?It was a basic session more to see what some of the players have to offer,? he said. ?Now that we expect to get the players from the two clubs available again, we will be pushing on with preparations,? the former national striker said. Meantime, Corneal is also overseeing the preparations of the national Under-17 team ahead of the final CONCACAF final round matches next April. The Under 17s have been training at the Ato Boldon Stadium prior to the senior team sessions. So far, two players from the Secondary Schools Football League have been added to the roster along with three players each from the United States and Canada. ?We will continue training through the Christmas break and then into January and February when we hope to then get some international exposure,? Corneal said.
