Soccer Football/Soccer - Report: David Beckham to leave Real Madrid & sign with MLS Los Angeles Galaxy

Beckham reportedly to join L.A. Galaxy
Former English captain leaving Spanish club team Real Madrid

David Beckham will sign with the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer and leave his Spanish club team Real Madrid, ABC News is reporting.
Beckham?s spokesman Simon Oliveira said Wednesday that talks with Real were to resume this week. He spoke shortly after comments by Madrid sports director Predrag Mijatovic led to confusion over the 31-year-old midfielder?s future.
?There?s still a written offer on the table from Real Madrid,? Oliveira told The Associated Press. ?We have a meeting in the next 48 hours.?
Mijatovic?s remarks to Italian TV station Sky TG 24 led to doubt over whether Madrid?s decision was final or whether talks were still alive.
Some news media quoted Mijatovic as saying, ?Beckham will leave us, we will not renew his contract.? However, that did not reflect the exact words broadcast in the Italian interview and translated by the AP.
The interviewer asked: ?Will Beckham?s contract be renewed??
Mijatovic replied: ?No, Beckham?s contract was not renewed.?
Madrid said it wasn?t aware of Mijatovic?s remarks, while the sports director said his words had been mistranslated.
Beckham?s four-year contract expires at the end of this season.
The club wants the former England captain to decide by next week whether he will accept a two-year contract extension.
Beckham, who joined Madrid from Manchester United in 2003, has been stalling on the offer due to his lack of first-team opportunities under coach Fabio Capello this season. He has started only seven of 25 matches.
Adding to speculation about his future, Beckham was left off Madrid?s squad to play a Copa del Rey match against Real Betis on Thursday.
Capello was expected to make changes following a dismal run in which Madrid has lost three of its last four games.
But Beckham?s omission for Thursday?s game appears to back reports that Capello has asked the club not to renew his contract. Capello reportedly views Beckham as the third choice for the right-sided midfield slot, behind captain Raul Gonzalez and Jose Antonio Reyes.
Oliveira recently said that Madrid?s offer was slightly bigger than his current contract. He said the player was taking his time because it was ?the last significant deal of his football career.?
Beckham is allowed to negotiate with other clubs during the January transfer window and can leave with Madrid?s permission.
Beckham has been linked to a possible return to the Premier League, a move to Italy or a jump to Major League Soccer in the United States, with the Los Angeles Galaxy reportedly interested.
?There have been discussions between AEG (Anschutz Entertainment Group) and David Beckham?s representatives,? MLS spokesman Dan Courtemanche said. ?However, David Beckham has not signed a contract to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy at this time.?
Beckham has a soccer academy in Los Angeles. His wife Victoria, a former Spice Girl, was recently photographed house-hunting in Los Angeles.
MLS recently changed its rules on salary caps, and that would allow Beckham to sign a lucrative deal.
Beckham hasn?t won a major trophy since joining Madrid.

MADRID, Spain (AP) -- David Beckham is still in negotiations with Real Madrid about a new contract.
Beckham's agent Simon Oliveira said talks would resume Thursday, a day after comments by Madrid sports director Predrag Mijatovic led to confusion over the 31-year-old midfielder's future.
"Real's offer is still on the table," Oliveira was quoted as saying by the British Broadcasting Corp.
Mijatovic's remarks to Italian TV station Sky TG 24 led to doubt over whether Madrid's decision was final or whether talks were still alive.

Soccer Its official: Beckham to leave Real Madrid for LA Galaxy

Its official: Beckham to leave Real Madrid for LA Galaxy
Updated 1/11/2007 11:12 AM ET
LONDON (AP) ? David Beckham agreed to a five-year deal with the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer, leaving the Real Madrid club at which he enjoyed worldwide popularity but experienced disappointment on the field.
Beckham, the former English captain who also starred for Manchester United, will join the Galaxy after his contract with Real Madrid expires on June 30. Los Angeles opens its season April 8 in Houston.
"I am proud to have played for two of the biggest clubs in football and I look forward to the new challenge of growing the world's most popular game in a country that is as passionate about its sport as my own," he said in a statement released Thursday.
The move was announced following the end of talks on extending the 31-year-old English midfielder's contract with the Spanish club. MLS recently changed its rules on salary caps, clearing the way for Beckham to sign a lucrative deal. British news reports put the Galaxy deal at $250 million.
"This week, Real Madrid asked me to make a decision regarding my future and the offer to extend my contract by a further two seasons," Beckham said in the statement. "After discussing several options with my family and advisers to either stay here at Madrid or join other major British and European clubs, I have decided to join the Los Angeles Galaxy and play in the MLS from August this year."
Beckham has soccer academies in London and Los Angeles. His wife Victoria, a former Spice Girl, was recently photographed househunting in Los Angeles.
"David Beckham will have a greater impact on soccer in America than any athlete has ever had on a sport globally," said Timothy J. Leiweke, president & CEO of Anschutz Entertainment Group, which owns the Galaxy. "David is truly the only individual that can build the bridge between soccer in America and the rest of the world."
Beckham joined Real Madrid in 2003 after a hugely successful run with Manchester United, where he won six league titles, two FA Cups and the Champions League title. But Beckham did not win a single major trophy with the Spanish club, and his spell coincided with Madrid's worst slump since the early 1950s.
Real Madrid has had six different coaches and three club presidents during Beckham's stay, but the club has made a fortune ? in part because of the star's position as a cultural icon for soccer fans and non-fans alike, including men, women and children of different ethnic and racial groups.
His marketability was emphasized by the hit movie Bend It Like Beckham, even as his skills deteriorated with age.
Beckham's contract included a clause in which half his image rights would go to Real Madrid. That helped earn the club millions, allowing the Spanish team to overtake Manchester United as the biggest earner in world soccer.
Beckham led England to the quarterfinals of the World Cup last summer, scoring from a free kick in the second round to beat Ecuador 1-0. But he was taken off the field early in the second half against Portugal with ankle and Achilles tendon injuries, and then watched as his team was eliminated in a penalty shootout.
A day after the game, Beckham stepped down as captain of the team ? a post he had held for 58 of his 94 international appearances. Then, on Aug. 11, England coach Steve McClaren dropped Beckham from the team altogether, signaling the end of his international career.

MLS Confirm on their web site: Galaxy to get Beckham in summer

The Los Angeles Galaxy have completed arguably the biggest transaction in MLS history Thursday, signing midfielder David Beckham from Real Madrid.
Beckham has agreed to a five-year deal with the Galaxy. He'll join the club during the summer transfer window after his contract with Real expires on June 30.
"This week, Real Madrid asked me to make a decision regarding my future and the offer to extend my contract by a further two seasons," Beckham said in a statement. "After discussing several options with my family and advisers to either stay here at Madrid or join other major British and European clubs, I have decided to join the Los Angeles Galaxy and play in the MLS from August this year.
"I am proud to have played for two of the biggest clubs in football and I look forward to the new challenge of growing the world's most popular game in a country that is as passionate about its sport as my own."
The move was made possible by the November implementation of the league's Designated Player rule, which states that a club may sign one player at a salary above the league maximum, with the league paying for the amount up to the maximum and the club picking up the rest.
"David Beckham is a global sports icon who will transcend the sport of soccer in America," said MLS Commissioner Don Garber. "His decision to continue his storied career in Major League Soccer is testament to the fact that America is rapidly becoming a true 'Soccer Nation' with Major League Soccer at the core. In the last few years, MLS has added three new teams, six new owners, four new soccer specific stadiums and signed four long term television agreements. The addition of David Beckham represents another significant step forward for the MLS and the sport."
Under new Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello, Beckham has seen his playing time decrease at the Bernabeu. This season, Beckham has started 10 of Real's 17 games and come off the bench in two more, playing a total of 601 minutes so far. He's scored twice, including once off a free kick, and he's provided one assist.
Perhaps the most well known soccer player in the world, Beckham is renowned for his superior crossing ability and masterful free kicks. His free kick strike against Greece in 2001 sent England to the 2002 World Cup Finals.
Though he has yet to appear for England under new national team boss Steve McClaren since the 2006 World Cup, Beckham has made 94 appearances for his country, good for fifth all-time on the squad. He made his debut for Glenn Hoddle in 1996, and served as captain from late 2000 through this past summer's World Cup.
The winger has scored a total of 17 goals on the national team level. Arguably the most important of them was his penalty kick goal against archrival Argentina in the opening round of the 2002 World Cup. The goal was the only one of the game, providing England with a 1-0 win to help soothe the pain of their shootout loss to the South Americans in the first knockout round in 1998. Beckham was sent off in that defeat.
At the club level, Beckham signed as a trainee with Manchester United in 1991 after playing in the Tottenham Hotspur youth system, and he made his senior debut with the Red Devils two years later.
During a decade-long career with United, Beckham won six English Premiership titles, including in 1999, when the club won the storied "treble" by claiming the Premiership, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League trophies in a single season. Beckham and Man United also captured the FA Cup in 1996. He scored a total of 86 goals with the club.
In 2003, Beckham was sold to Real Madrid for a staggering $41 million. He was part of Real president Florentino Pérez´s campaign to acquire a club of megastars, which also brought Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo and Ronaldo to the Bernabeu. Despite their star-studded lineup, though, Real haven't been able to win a trophy since the 2002-03 campaign.
In addition to being a talent on the field, Beckham has proven to be a massive boon to the bottom line. When he signed with Real, sales of jerseys and other merchandise skyrocketed, helping Real to eventually overtake United as the richest club in the world.

We can do way better on the stock market.
I made 127% this morning Metastock RULES ! Too bad I didn't know it 4 months ago
Just do this calculus : if you make 50% a day (less than half of what I've done today) :
Money x 1.5^x = money you'll have in x days.
^_^ Anyway, there IS a limit to "money", but it's still an interesting equation.
Never heard of LA Galaxy...
