Panama defeats Haiti; Guatemala ties USA in U-20 Group A

19.1.07 - The hosts Panama defeated Haiti, while Guatemala tied the USA at the 2007 CONCACAF Under-20 Final Round Qualification Group A at the Rommel Fernández Stadium in Panama City on Friday evening.

Davis Wallace gave Panama (1-0-1, 4 Points) a 1:0 lead with a goal in the 22nd minute, but Roberts Saintilus leveled it for Haiti (0-2-0, 0 Points) in the 60th minute of the second half.

After an own goal by Haiti?s Roberts Saintilus in the 72nd minute, Eitenne Yveson got the equaliser five minutes later. Jose Jafeth Brown scored the game-winner for the canaleros in the 84th minute for the 3:2 result that also eliminated the Haitians.

In an earlier Group A encounter at the Rommel Fernández Stadium on Friday, Guatemala (0-0-2, 2 Points) held the USA (1-0-1, 4 Points) to a scoreless draw.

This is also the first time since 1964 that the stars & stripes do not defeat the chapines in a CONCACAF Youth Tournament or U-20 Qualification match ending a seven-game winning streak.

The 2007 CONCACAF U-20 Final Round Group A concludes on Sunday (21 January), when Guatemala plays against Haiti at 16:00 and then Panama hosts USA at 18:00.

The top two teams, along with the two more from Group B next month in Culiacán, Sinaloa Mexico, will progress to the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007 from 30 June ? 12 July.
