Host nation Trinidad and Tobago to play last in Digicel Caribbean cup semi-finals

JANUARY 19, 2007 ? PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD: Digicel, the fastest-growing telecommunications operator in the Caribbean is pleased to announce the big four teams who have made it to the Digicel Caribbean Cup semi-finals.
Cuba, Haiti and Guadeloupe have battled through three rounds and 9 games to be occupy one of the final four spots in this years highly entertaining and exciting Digicel Caribbean Cup. Trinidad and Tobago, are the fourth team through after the World Cup finalists qualified by winning their Sedley Joseph group after automatically qualifying as hosts. The 4 teams will be play off on Saturday for a coveted place in the finals of the Digicel Caribbean Cup, following a record number of qualifying matches.
The tournament has been the largest the Caribbean has ever witnessed with the highest number of fans that have ever come out to support the best in Caribbean football.
The Digicel Caribbean Cup semi finals will be played in the home of the soca warriors, the Hasely Crawford stadium with the line up of game scheduled as
17.00 (5pm) Haiti versus Guadeloupe
19.15 (7.15pm) Trinidad and Tobago versus Cuba
The tournament has produced so many shocks and surprises this year, with holders Jamaica being eliminated in the first round and Guyana the only side with a 100% record in the preceding qualifying rounds unable to get into the illustrious final four.
Looking at the remaining teams, Cuba who are now ranked number one in the Caribbean football union slid through to the semis on goal difference in the Bobby Sookram group allowing them the right to play the hosts Trinidad and Tobago.
Haiti, who were five minutes away from being knocked out of the competition in the second qualifying Group I, have become the Cinderella team of the tournament , being the last team to qualify for the finals but the first team to reach the semi finals.
Guadeloupe with former French international Jocelyn Angloma have a nice experience of youth and experience. Angloma a former European Cup player as well as a former Marseille, Valencia and Inter Milan is playing alongside younger protégé?s such as Dominique Mocka and Fabien Raddas.
With so many French West Indies players having participate in the World Cup Final, one could not ignore the threat posed by the French colonial side.
The last team in the semi final is the exciting ?soca warriors? who are still fresh from their trip to the world cup in Germany in 2006. Though not playing at full strength the home team did not fail to excite local support as all of their games have featured the largest crowds at matches played in the finals.
The warriors who have seen lower placed teams sky rocket in their CFU and FIFA rankings will be hoping to do their side justice by placing their stamp back on Caribbean football when they take on current no 1 in CFU rankings, Cuba.
It is expected that hundreds of fans will come out to the match with prices for the uncovered stands at fifty dollars and covered stands at one hundred dollars. The special innovation for the Digicel Caribbean Cup, of kids under the age of 12 being allowed in free will be continued for these matches.
