Fenwick sends warning to Baltimore Sportif
Friday, January 26 2007
TT PRO LEAGUE Club CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh and Haitians Baltimore Sportif will kick off the first semifinal match of the Caribbean Club Championships today at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Couva.
Coach of the San Juan based Club told ?ttproleague.com?, ?Baltimore Sportif should look forward to a hell of a match.?
?We are looking very sharp and compact as a unit, we are looking like a real professional team and at the moment I am pleased to work with the guys. Our tempo is really fast at the moment and we will continue to sharpen up on our corners, free kicks and shooting before the match,? said the 2006 Lucozade Sport Big Six winning coach speaking after one of his training sessions.
Fenwick also believes he has the best possible team ready for the match he said, ?All my players at Jabloteh are great players and I have the best possible team ready. I am delighted that we have young players particularly Trinidadians that are doing well. We are looking to introduce young players with Trent Noel, Jason Marcano and young Lester Peltier who are terrific talents and they are all looking good at the moment,? he explained.
The former English international is also looking forward to great performances from Kerry Baptiste and Nigel Daniel who recently returned to the Club from national duties in the just concluded Digicel Caribbean Cup.
?Both Baptiste and Nigel Daniel had a terrific tournament in the Digicel Caribbean Cup with the national team and now its time for them to perform for Jabloteh in the Club Championship semifinals because we obviously want to progress in this tournament,? said the Englishman.
This match is labeled a Trinidad and Tobago vs Haiti clash but at Club level after the national teams clashed in the final of the Digicel Caribbean Cup where Haiti came out victorious.
The San Juan Jabloteh coach admits the semifinal clash would be a tough match against the Haitian club after seeing their national team during the Digicel Caribbean Cup.
?Most of the Baltimore Sportif players are from the Haitian national team so we are expecting the matches to be tough and physical but we have prepared well. I have watched all their national team matches in the recent Digicel Caribbean Cup and I think we are ready and as I have said earlier, we will give them a good game,? ended Fenwick.

Soccer Harbour View face tough Carib challenge

Harbour View face tough Carib challenge
published: Friday | January 26, 2007
FORMER CHAMPIONS Harbour View have their sights set on regaining the Caribbean Club Championship crown but first they must get by Trinidad top guns W Connection in tonight's semi-final at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Trinidad.
Boosted by huge win over local rivals Waterhouse, which saw them capture top spot in the premier league on Wednesday, the 'Stars of the East' carry a five-game winning streak into the twin-island republic for the game which kicks off at 8:30 p.m. Harbour View coach Lenworth Hyde is hoping that the momentum of Wednesday's win and their recent good form will carry over into tonight's game.
"We have been preparing well for the fixture, we have a solid squad, we will have the same set of players from the Waterhouse game and we will be going out their to play good football," Hyde said.
"They are a good team and I hear they even have a couple of Brazilians in their squad so it will not be an easy game," he said.
"However, I am confident in the players. They are playing well and they really want to win that Cup," Hyde pointed out.
The Trinidad and Tobago First Citizens cup champions, W Connection, will be no pushovers. The team has already captured the Cup once with a win in 2003 and has been preparing for the fixture with a training stint in Brazil.
Harbour View booked their spot in the semi-finals when they topped Group A which was played at the Harbour View Mini-Stadium. In that round, the 'Stars of the East' had wins over Centro Barber, Positive Vibes and Aigle Noir. W Connection topped Group C which was played in Puerto Rico with wins over the Puerto Rico Islanders and Hoppers FC of Antigua and Barbuda.
In the day's other semi-final scheduled for the same venue at 6:30 p.m., Baltimore Sportif (Haiti) will take on San Juan Jabloteh (Trinidad). Sportif eliminated premier league champions Waterhouse in Group B which was also played at the Harbour View Mini-Stadium.

Soccer 'Stars of the East' shine against champions

'Stars of the East' shine against champions
Friday, January 26, 2007
Harbour View..........3
Scarlett 18th (penalty), F Taylor 21st, Wolfe 85th
Waterhouse..........................1
McDonald 41st
Two-time National Premier League champions Harbour View danced to an emphatic 3-1 win over champions Waterhouse in their top-of-the-table clash at Compound on Wednesday.
Harbour View now lead the table with 43 points, followed by Waterhouse on 40, after both teams entered the game as joint leaders, with Waterhouse ahead on goal difference.
First-half goals from Robert Scarlett (18th, penalty) and Fabian Taylor (21st) and a second-half strike from Kemeel Wolfe gave the 'Stars from the East' a royal send-off to Trinidad & Tobago where they will compete in the Caribbean Football Union Club Championship semi-final round.
Marco McDonald scored the consolation goal for the defending champions in the 41st.
Harbour View's 18-member squad left the island yesterday for Trinidad, where they are scheduled to face W-Connection of Trinidad in the second semi-final at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium today.
In the first game, Baltimore Sportif of Haiti face Financial San Juan Jabloteh of Trinidad. The two winners will contest Sunday's final for a spot in the CONCACAF Club Championship.
"I am happy with the victory. Our plan was that the first 10, 15 minutes would have been high intensity and we did that for 30 minutes and that proved very effective as we got the two early goals," said Lenworth Hyde, coach of Harbour View.
Barrington Gaynor of Waterhouse said: "The level of composure which the team came into the game with let us down. We were totally out of sync, especially in the first half.
The loss may have put a damper on the team, but Waterhouse is a believing team and this means that we can rise to the occasion again."
Harbour View showed from the kick-off that they were a much better team as they stamped their superiority with scintillating, authoritative play.
Waterhouse were without eight of their best players, and lacked the quality to hold Harbour View at bay.
The first real threat came in the eighth minute when defender Roger Rodney was called for handled ball outside the penalty area. Scarlett drove the spot kick inches over the crossbar.
Nine minutes later, Rodney sliced Kavin Bryan to the ground from a strong tackle in the area after the persistent striker eluded the Waterhouse defence. Scarlett handed his team the lead from the penalty spot.
Harbour View continued to pile on the pressure and four minutes later, Taylor, from a solo effort, jostled his way into the six-yard area and slammed a scorching left-footer past a diving Richard McCallum.
Approaching the break, Irvino English lashed an accurate 35-yard screamer which was heading straight at the Harbour View goal. However, an alert goalkeeper Dwayne Miller acrobatically fisted it for a corner.
Waterhouse pulled a goal back when Jermaine Taylor committed a foul on Roberto Fletcher 25 yards out and from the resulting free-kick, McDonald threw his team a lifeline with a back-headed goal from Demar Phillips' spot-kick.
To add to injury, McCallum spilled a swirling chip from Oneil Smith to the feet of Wolfe, who sealed the issue for Harbour View.

Soccer Respect is the source of success - coach Hyde

Respect is the source of success - coach Hyde
published: Friday | January 26, 2007
HARBOUR VIEW coach Lenworth Hyde has attributed a mutual respect between players and coaches at the club as a major part of the team's success so far this season.
On Wednesday night, the 'Stars of the East' continued to dispel myths held by many spectators that they are not a big occasion team when they trounced titleholders Waterhouse 3-1 at the Harbour View Mini-Stadium to move three points clear at the top of the Wray and Nephew National Premier League.
This was not the first big victory for the team as earlier this season they also scored a huge win over Waterhouse to lift the first end-of-round title.
"We have a lot of respect and love for the players and they are really giving it back to us on the field," a satisfied Hyde said following the team's win on Wednesday.
"They are playing for us, playing for themselves and most impor-tantly they always want to win," he said.
Stay up
"Now we have the lead, we will try to maintain it. We have hit the front so we will have to stay up. Every game from now on will be twice as important," he said.
Robert Scarlett scored from the spot to give the home side the lead in the 17th minute. Hundreds of cheering fans found their voices when striker Fabian Taylor spun sharply in the area before blasting past Waterhouse custodian Richard McCallum in the 21st minute to double the lead.
Waterhouse defender Marco McDonald cut the deficit in half with a 40th-minute header and midfielder Irvino English came close to levelling the score in the 76th, but his header from a Demar Phillips' corner flashed wide of the far post.
Kemeel Wolfe finished the game off for Harbour View 10 minutes later but he had some help from Waterhouse 'keeper McCallum. The custodian, who had been immaculate in goal, spilled a long-range effort from Oniel Smith which allowed Wolfe to tap in from close range.
Despite a number of players being absent from their line-up, Waterhouse coach Barrington Gaynor did not believe that was the reason for his team's loss.
"We have a deep team and I can't say if those players were there we would have definitely won the game. I think it was our attitude today. We were not composed enough," Gaynor said.
"We gave up two quick goals - we just started poorly. We played better in the second half but we just did not get it done," he said.
Harbour View 3
Robert Scarlett 17th
Fabian Taylor 21st
Kemeel Wolfe 86th
Waterhouse 1
Marco McDonald 40th
