Soccer Football/Soccer - San Juan Jabloteh eased past Haitian Club Baltimore Sportif 2-0 in CFU Final

CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh eased past Haitian Club Baltimore Sportif 2-0 in CFU Final
10-man Jabloteh secure spot in CFU final
Saturday, 27 January 2007
MANNIE RAMJOHN STADIUM ? TT Pro League?s CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh eased past Haitian Club Baltimore Sportif 2-0 in the semifinals of the Caribbean Club Championships at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, to secure their spot in the final.
The San Juan based Club registered a goal on either side of the half with Peter Prosper and Wendell Joseph getting on the score sheet despite losing their captain on a red card.
The semifinal match had all the bitterness left over from Trinidad and Tobago match against Haiti in the final of the Digicel Caribbean Cup no less than a week ago when Haiti won 2-1 and was crowned the Champions of the Caribbean.
Jabloteh made the public aware that at Club level it was different scenario, when they outclassed the Haitians for most of the match.
However it was Baltimore who created the early opportunity when Teddy Saget had a shot on goal but his 20-yard effort lifted overbar in the 5th minute.
Jabloteh vs SportifIn the same minute on a counter attack Jabloteh?s Aurtis Whitley flicked a neat pass to Jason Marcano on the left who then whipped a low cross into the area but Peter Prosper and young Lester Peltier both failed to connect.
The ?San Juan Kings? then dominated the early stages of the first half leaving no room for the Baltimore players to work with.
In the 16th minute Marcano won a free kick at the edge of the area when he was brought down by defender Luckson Joseph. Jabloteh?s 2006 MVP Trent Noel played the ball into the area from the free kick to Ian Gray who then played it back to Whitley who blasted the ball over bar.
Down at the other end Jabloteh goal keeper Durance Williams injured his ankle after landing awkwardly under an attack from Baltimore Sportif forcing Coach Terry Fenwick to make a premature substitution replacing him with Brian James in the 22nd minute.
Five minutes later the San Juan based team went ahead when Peter Prosper punished goalkeeper Henry Philongene Jr. from point blank. Unmarked Prosper side footed the ball past the goal keeper after receiving a low pass from Whitley who evaded his marker on the left side to put the home team ahead 1-0.
Jabloteh vs SportifBaltimore Sportif showed little resistance as things just weren?t falling their way with team Captain Roland Saint-Jean trying to lead from the middle.
In the 29th minute Alain Vubert headed wide of goal keeper James? post from an Emerlin Nicholas corner.
The Haitian Club had a couple of promising buildups from Dumel Decius, Teddy Saget and Serge Louis but those prove futile by some great defending by the Jabloteh defence.
Just over the half hour mark Jabloteh goal scorer Peter Prosper tried a low shot from the edge of the area but was unable to double his tally as goal keeper Philogene Jr. easily collected.
Baltimore then continued to create their half chances and in the 38th minute Teddy Saget?s 22yard effort was unable to hit the target after receiving a left sided pass from Ednerson Raymond.
In that same minute Jabloteh captain and World Cup player Cyd Gray received a booking by referee Javier Juaregui for a foul on Baltimore Sprotif captain Saint-Jean.
Baltimore looked a bit more certain in the late stages as midfielders Ednerson Raymond and Emerlin Nicholas connected some neat passes in the middle.
But their efforts were matched by the San Juan based team as the half time mark trickled through.
In the 45th minute Wendell Joseph played a left sided corner into the area which was knocked in the path of Cyd Gray who blasted the ball high over bar.
After failing to hit the target Cyd became a villain leaving his team down a man at the half when he made a careless double challenge on Baltimore Sportif?s Peter Germain to receive his second booking and an automatic sending off.
Jabloteh vs SportifSan Juan Jabloteh remaining with their one goal advantage and one man short at the half.
10-man Jabloteh returned determined to hold on to their lead after the break as they took the match into Baltimore Sportif half.
In the 47th minute Lester Peltier pounced on loose ball after defender Luckson Joseph failed to control and raced into the area to have a shot but his low effort was easily blocked by goal keeper Philogene Jr.
Jabloteh continued to dominate ball possession and the better plays with Peltier, Jason Marcano and goal scorer Peter Prosper drilling hard at the Baltimore defence.
Just before the hour mark Coach Terry Fenwick then decided to replace his goal scorer with a defensive player as he looked to secure his advantage.
Soon afterwards in the 60th minute Jabloteh?s lead was doubled when midfielder Wendell Joseph chipped an approaching goal keeper Philogene Jr. inside his area after receiving a through ball from Lester Peltier for the 2-0 advantage.
With Baltimore Sportif?s frustration building and Jabloteh determined to hold on to their advantage two players were booked in the 68th minute. Jabloteh?s Aurtis Whitley and Baltimore Sportif?s Ednerson Raymond for unruly behavior by referee Juaregui.
In the 80th minute Baltimore Sportif Peter Germain sent Dumel Ducius through on goal but he was beaten to the ball by goal keeper James.
The Haitians had another chance in the 85th minute but this time from a free kick on top of the area but team Captain Saint-Jean slammed his effort into the Jabloteh wall and out for a corner.
And as the match reeled out its final moments no real chance was created although a couple players received clumsy bookings.
At the sound of referee Javier Jauregui?s final whistle the Jabloteh fans celebrated their 2-0 victory and their place in the final.

Soccer Baltimore Sportif coach accepts defeat

Baltimore Sportif coach accepts defeat
Saturday, 27 January 2007
Coach Pierre Andre Dorvilus of the Haitian Club Baltimore Sportif believes the better team won on the night, after the Haitians went down 2-0 in their semifinal match against Pro League giants CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh in the Caribbean Club Championship.
San Juan Jabloteh cruised to victory with goals from Peter Prosper and Wendell Joseph and would now meet local archrivals Vibe CT 105 W Connection in the final on Sunday.
Coach Dorvilus spoke with ?ttproleague.com? and said, ?The better team won the match and are into the final. The Pro League club was physically ready and they proved to be the better team in the end and I believe they deserve to progress and would do better in the finals,? he said after the match.
However the Baltimore Sportif coach was quick to add, ?Key players in our team were very tired, due to some of them coming off national duty and this is why they were not able to play at their best. I strongly believe this contributed to why we lost the match to San Juan Jabloteh,? explained the Haitian.
Two Baltimore Sportif players represented the Haitian national team in the just concluded Digicel Caribbean Cup where they were successfully crowned the 2007 Champions of the Caribbean. Those two players are Peter Germain and Ednerson Raymond.
