El Salvador & Guatemala qualify to 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup
10.2.07 - Guatemala and the host El Salvador qualified to the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup? after progressing to the semifinals of the Copa de Naciones Digicel 2007 de UNCAF (Central American Qualification) with Group 1 victories over Belize and Nicaragua, respectively, at the Cuscatlán Stadium in San Salvador on Saturday.
Guatemala will be making their eighth Gold Cup appearance in 2007, while El Salvador will compete in their fifth CONCACAF tournament.
Gustavo Cabrera had the only goal of the match for Guatemala (2-0-0, 6 Points) in the 1:0 win over Belize (0-1-0, 0 Points), while Eliseo Quintanilla scored twice to lead El Salvador (2-0-0, 6 Points) to a 2:1 triumph against Nicaragua (0-2-0, 0 Points).
The Copa de Naciones Digicel 2007 de UNCAF (Union Centroamericana de Fútbol) continues on Sunday at the Cuscatlán Stadium with Group 2 as Honduras (0-1-0, 0 Points) takes on Panama (0-0-0, 0 Points) at 14:00. COMPETE SCHEDULE
El Salvador and Guatemala along with three more Central American qualifiers will join Caribbean representatives Cuba, Guadeloupe, Haiti and Trinidad & Tobago and the previous Gold Cup champions (Canada, Mexico, USA) in the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup? that takes place from 6-24 June in six venues across the USA.
