Digicel Caribbean Cup Player of the Tournament and Goal of the Tournament Haiti?s Richard Bruny takes top honour with Lambourde of Guadeloupe taking best goal
Monday, February 12, 2007 ? Port of Spain, Trinidad: After 10 days of votes being cast from around the Caribbean the honour of the Caribbean?s finest player during the Digicel Caribbean Cup goes to Haiti?s captain supreme Richard Bruny, with the greatest goal in the tournament going to Guadeloupe?s power house midfielder Jean Luc Lambourde.
Bruny had some top quality opposition to see off in his hope to be voted in as the no 1 player in the Digicel Cup?s 5 month tournament, but was rated highly enough by both press and fans through the on line voting system available on
www.digicelfootball.com.
In all over 25,000 votes were cast, a staggering response to what was the Caribbean?s largest ever football tournament and in the end the Haitian captain came through.
Nigel Coddrington of Guyana who was the tournaments top scorer with 11 goals was a close runner up with Cuba?s talisman defender Jenier Molina coming in third slot.
Former European Cup player and French national player Jocelyn Angloma took the honour of being voted the fourth best Caribbean player during the Digicel tournament with the impressive displays of SVG keeper Melvin Andrews earning him fifth position.
After only joining the tournament in the finals stages Gary Glasgow made an everlasting impression by taking the Digicel Golden boot for the finals with 6 goals in 5 games and showed enough form to be in the running order for the Digicel player of the tournament with players who had been competing throughout the Caribbean for the past 5 months.
The greatest goal of the tournament came down to a close contest between Jean Luc Lambourde of Guadeloupe for his stunning 35yard effort against St Martin in round one and the magnificent free kick by Nigel Daniel dispatched in the Digicel Caribbean Cup final for Trinidad and Tobago against Haiti.
Lambourde getting the public?s vote slightly over that of Daniel?s Beckham-esque effort.
The winning candidates will receive top of the range Motorola handsets along with the prestige of being the greatest player and goal scorer in the Digicel Caribbean Cup tournament
