CONCACAF teams receive tough groups for FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007

3.3.07 - Costa Rica, Mexico, Panama, USA and the host Canada found themselves placed into tough groups when the draw for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007 was held on Saturday in Toronto, Ontario, as CONCACAF?s five representatives all received their assignments for the event which will run from 30 June ? 12 July.

Canada was placed in Group A, along with Austria, Chile and Congo, while Mexico was drawn into Group C with Gambia, Portugal and New Zealand.

The USA will play in Group D alongside Brazil, Korea Republic and Poland, while Panama finds themselves in Group E that includes Argentina, Czech Republic and Korea DPR. Group F has Costa Rica competing against Japan, Scotland and Nigeria.

FIFA Vice-President, Jack Warner, CONCACAF President and Chairman of the Organising Committee for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, presided over the draw ceremony held at Toronto?s Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex, which also included the attendances of such Canadian athletic stars such as: Donovan Bailey, Craig Forrest, Curt Harnett, Marnie McBean and Christine Sinclair.

In all, 24 teams were drawn into six groups of four teams for the tournament in Canada. The top two teams in each group, plus the four best third-place teams, advance to the knockout stage.
