Miami FC, playing one man down for the entire second half, loses to Montreal Impact 1-0 - 05/05/2007
Miami, May 5, 2007 - After 270 minutes without a goal, a game between Miami FC and Montreal Impact did not end scoreless this time. Last year, the Impact and the Miami FC tied 0-0 twice, on April 23 in Florida and on May 28, in Montreal. On April 3, Miami and the Montreal tied once again 0-0 in a pre-season match-up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. However, tonight Montreal won 1-0.
At minute two, Walter Ramirez saved Miami on top of the goal line after a kick by number 12 from Montreal Impact, Charles Gbeke.
Four minutes later, referee Niko Bratsis cautioned the Miami FC forward Luchi Gonzalez with a yellow card. At minute 17, Zinho also got an yellow card.
The game was very tepid, with no major plays, when at minute 43, Montreal Impact saw the Miami FC go a man down; Miami FC´s midfielder John Pulido was sent off after tackling Montreal Impact´s number 9, Fabro Martin.
At minute 45, Miami FC´s number 3, Chris Williams, also got an yellow card. One minute later, Zinho, after an individual play, forced a Montreal defenseman to touch the ball with his hands close to the box. Zinho curved the ball around the wall, depositing the ball into the upper right corner, missing the goal by a hair.
With one man down, Head Coach Chiquinho de Assis decided to make changes with the Miami FC lineup at half time. Number 15, Sergio Van Kanten went in for Luchi Gonzalez and Ignacio "Nacho" Calcagno replaced Sean Fraser.
Montreal Impact, taking advantage of having one more man on the field, started the second half on the attack, but Miami FC´s goalie, Pat Hannigan, was in an inspired mood and had a couple of great saves.
At minute 64, midfielder Jamil Jean-Jaques came out replaced by another midfielder, number 16 Douglas. One minute later, Montreal made the switch when Sita Taty Maondo came in and Mattew Paleeschi went out.
At minute 68, number 12 Charles Gbeke ran to the far right post to finish a cross by number 11 Frederico Moojen and scored the first goal after 338 minutes without the ball hitting the net for none of the teams.
Sean Cameron got yet another yellow card at minute 74 and Rachid Didouh replaced Sean Cameron at the 80th minute but it was too little too late for Miami.
