CONCACAF team receive group assignments
17.5.07 - Costa Rica, Haiti, Honduras, Trinidad & Tobago and USA were given their group assignments when the draw for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Korea Republic 2007 was held on Thursday at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Seoul, as CONCACAF’s five representatives will compete at the FIFA event which runs from 18 August – 9 September.
Costa Rica was placed in Group A, along with Peru, Togo and the host, Korea Republic, while Honduras was drawn into Group C with Argentina, Spain and Syria.
Haiti will play in Group D alongside France, Japan and Nigeria, while the USA find themselves in Group E that includes Belgium, Tajikistan and Tunisia. Group F has Trinidad & Tobago competing against Colombia, Germany and Ghana.
FIFA Vice-President, Jack Warner, CONCACAF President and Chairman of the Organising Committee for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, presided over the draw ceremony held at the Grand Ballroom in the Grand Hyatt Hotel.
In all, 24 teams were drawn into six groups of four teams for the tournament in Canada. The top two teams in each group, plus the four best third-place teams, advance to the knockout stage.
