BAYAMON, PR -- After going scoreless during their last face-off in Charleston last week, both the Islanders and the Battery came to Puerto Rico determined to put numbers on the board, but the Islanders were the ones to score more of them as they downed the visitors 3-1.
The first goal of the game came for Puerto Rico in minute 32. A precise pass from Noah Delgado was good enough for Noel Fabrice to take a fierce shot at the net that bounced back to him off the left post and allowing him to put it in for the goal.
Charleston tried to answer back almost immediately as Stephen Armstrong tried to cash in on a penalty kick to no avail.
Five minutes later, Lazo Alavanja centered to Gordon Chin, who managed to even the score and quiet down the pumped up crowd at the Juan Ramon Loubriel stadium as the first half came to a close.
The action started almost immediately on the second half, with the Islanders taking the lead. A hard shot from Petter Villegas in minute 48 flew over the goal and a minute later Alberto Delgado took another shot that missed its target.
The islanders' offense kept pressing on until they finally got what they were looking for. In minute 54 Jay Needham centered beautifully to Noel Fabrice, who had no problem finding the back of the net.
Four minutes later, in a mad scramble in front of Dusty Hudock's goal, Islanders defender Marco Velez found a loose ball that he put past Hudock to post the third and final winning point for the home team.
The Islanders and the Battery face off once more in Bayamon this Sunday.
