Football/Soccer - Jean Philippe Peguero's interview with Haitiwebs.com | Featured Articles | | | Article Tools | | | | | | Football/Soccer - Jean Philippe Peguero's interview with Haitiwebs.com Thank you for granting this interview to Haitiwebs.com and we especially want to express our gratitude for the joy you provide each time you score whether for Haiti or your club. How's your recovery progressing, when do you expect to get back on the field for Brondby IF?
The recovery is progressing very well as everybody knows it was a very bad injury and I think the reason I'm back in training now and even starting to strike the ball again is because God loves me so much and he has something special reserved for me. You seemed to have adjusted well and fast in Denmark until the injury. How was you experience with the players, coaching staff and fans coming into this league? Do you know a few words in Dansk?
Actually the experience was good. The reception from the players, the coaches, the staffs and the fans everything was fantastic and it still is. My teammates, the staff and specially the fans show me a lot of love and there's nothing to complain about. It's just a blessing from God to make my dream come true and yes I do know a few Danish words :-) You've played for Don Bosco in Haiti, Rapids and Red Bulls in the MLS and now in Europe with Brondby. How great is the level of play between Haiti, USA and Denmark?
Well I think the level is good because nothing is ever done at once. You have to take it step by step until you get to the last step just like I'm doing right now. After you left the Red Bulls, Josmer Altidore exploded as a striker. Are you following his progress and did you try to convince Josmer to play for the Haitian NT?
Yes I do follow him a little and he's doing extremely well for the NY Red Bull. I knew he was going to explode in the MLS that's why before I left MLS I gave him my advice and I also told him that he will make it happen. I didn't really have the time to convince him to play for the Haitian National team because I was with the NY Red Bull just for two months and Josmer Altidor was in FL to continue his high school about that time. When he came back to NY Red Bull I left MLS the week after so that's how the history ended. I think it will be much better if the Haitian federation tries to convince him instead of a soccer player like him try to tell him so. Who do you keep in touch with among your ex-teammates? Alexandre Boucicot and Fabrice Noel (Rapids), Stephane Guillaume (nearly signed with Rapids); JJ Pierre (Nat. Team)...
Yes of course I still keep in touch with those guys and some other players like Peter G, Brunny Prr R, Tullien N, Jules F and Ricardo Prr. Who's been your favorite "Strike-Partner" in league or NT?
Actually I didn't have a preferred striker to play with because I'm the kind of player who can read any player's game. That's right whoever striker I play with, people always say those two strikers match together. Of all the goals you scored which one is your favorite?
My favorite goal will be hummm ,hummm I will say the second goal I scored against Bayern Munich. It was a pass from one of my teammate, I pass him the ball on the right side after the midline and I made my run to found myself in a good angle to get the ball back from him. Again! he did pass the ball back to me and the Bayern defender was coming in front of me and I didn't think one second and I chipped the ball over the defender in the penalty area, caught the ball down with my left foot and had a small touch to second post with the same left foot. I think that was one of the best goals in the whole world. We noticed an explosion in your game after you left the Rapids, what contributed to unleashing your full potential?
Well it wasn't anything really, I just wasn't happy at the end about how things were going on between the staff. Then I asked coach Clavijo to trade me but he didn't want to, so I called my agent and told him that I'm not staying with the Colorado Rapids, I want to get out of there in a month. My agent contacted all the teams in the MLS and they all wanted me but they didn't agree with the offer to give three players away for one player. The ex-head coach of the NY Red Bull wanted me for so long but he never though that I will ever leave the Rapids. When he heard from my agent that I wanted to leave the Rapids it was nothing at all for him to give 3 players to get me from the Rapids and that was end of history. World Cup 2010! What do you think our National Team needs to make it happen?
I think we need to play more international games with some good team like: Italy, Spain, Denmark, France, Argentina, Germany and Portugal. Of course we also need a good soccer field to train everyday, treat the players right of course, to eat properly and we need a gym that has all the equipment so we can get much stronger than we are right now. We also need support from all the Haitians People all over the world because a Team doesn't mean the players and the coaching staff but its everybody to make together to become one. Have you spoken to coach Luis Amelio Garcia yet? What does he expect from you and what do you expect from the Coach?
Well we only met once, that was the day we lost our last game in the Gold Cup and that was the last time we had a talk. The conversation was more about my recovery and he hopes that I get better soon so I can come to help them out in the front. I told him I'm looking forward to work with him and he's a pretty cool Coach also. What would you suggest to Haitian children who aspire to become soccer players?
What I suggest is that they don't give up with their dream otherwise I would not be where I am now. Of course go to school because Education is always important in life, for them to respect their parents because your parents will never betray you no matter what you do and will always love you no matter who you are. They must also respect people in their environment because you won't go far if people among you don't love you. The special thing I suggest to them is to pray the Lord about their dream because nothing is possible without God. You interact a lot with your fans on your myspace site: MySpace.com - ( THE OFFICIAL PAGE OF) JPP 19 - 25 - Male - EUROPE - www.myspace.com/peguero19
What does the fans bring to your life or your game?
The fans are always important to me in my life because without them I would not be Happy right now. They always bring something special into my life like happiness, supports, love and success, specially the Brondby IF fans. The love and support they're giving me is like I was playing in my own country and I thank God for this blessing because I just got into this Club and next thing you know I got injured and it was not even a month yet since I'd been in the Club. The main thing is that I didn't even have enough time to improve myself, to show the Club and the Fans the real JPP. Even though I scored 4 goals in 5 matches it still didn't mean that I had time to improve myself. Nevertheless the fans didn't look at it that way and I'm thinking it's because they have faith in me and they know that I can help the team win many trophies, even though I didn't have time to show them what JPP really brings to Brondby IF.
