Soccer Football/Soccer - NYRed Bulls: Josmer Altidore not for sale

Report: Real Madrid interested in Altidore
Last Update: 11/16 7:39 pm
Real Madrid is interested in U.S. national and New York forward Jozy Altidore, AS newspaper in Spain reported Friday.
Real Madrid scout Carlos Bucero watched Altidore in the Major League Soccer playoffs and the La Liga champions have reportedly approached New York about acquiring Altidore, according to the report.
Real Madrid is preparing to make an offer for the 18-year-old Altidore, AS reported. Atletico Madrid is also reportedly interested in Altidore, according to the newspaper.
The report also said Real Madrid plans to change its transfer policy to pursue younger, inexpensive players and develop them instead of signing higher-priced veterans.
Altidore scored nine goals in 22 games for New York in his second season in the MLS, and led the U.S. Under-20 team in the recent youth World Cup with four goals.
He was recently called up to the U.S. senior national team for the first time and could make his debut for the senior team Saturday against South Africa.

Soccer Red Bulls: Jozy is NOT for sale

Red Bulls: Jozy is NOT for sale
The same day reports emerged from Spain linking Real Madrid to Red Bulls forward Jozy Altidore, Red Bulls officials made it clear that the 18-year-old sensation is not for sale.
"He's not going anywhere," Red Bulls president Marc deGrandpre said on Friday night. "I've talked to Jozy and he knows he's a very important part of our future."
The Red Bulls are eager to keep Altidore around as long as possible and the temptation of a large transfer fee isn't likely to sway a parent company that isn't struggling for money.
What's my take? He will be around in 2008 at least and the Red Bulls are going to try their hardest to keep him through the 2009 season. Ultimately, the decision will come down to Altidore and his desire to make the move abroad. In August, Altidore told SBI that he is strongly considering a move to Europe.
"I definitely went back and forth about it," Altidore said about considering a move to Europe. "There was a time when I said to myself that I'm not going to go there until I'm 21, when I'm more mature and able to take care of myself and live a life like that. But then again I thought about the soccer aspect. If I wait until I'm 21 there might be a big drop off there so the younger the better.
"That's the way I see it now," Altidore said. "The quicker you can get there the better. Even if it starts off tough you can always adjust to it, especially if it's a team that needs you. It's all about timing."
Altidore should spend another season in MLS. As strong as his 2007 was, he can use another full season in MLS to help develop his game further. After 2008 is anybody's guess. I really can't imagine Altidore staying in 2009 if he continues to improve at the rate he's improved at over the past year. He has the talent to play for a high-level club like Real Madrid, but he also needs to develop his game further to be fully prepared for such a move.
As for those who think that MLS can force a transfer. Not so fast my friend. Red Bull spent nine figures to purchase the Red Bulls and that purchase has bought serious clout with the league. You can rest assured that Red Bull would put the whammy on attempt by the league to force a sale. That scenario is really a non-issue. It will come down to what Altidore and the Red Bulls want to do. Don't be surprised of Altidore signs a new, lucrative MLS contract in the near future.

Soccer No Transfer For Altidore

NO TRANSFER FOR ALTIDORE Striker Jozy Altidore, who was with the United States national team in Johannesburg on Saturday for a friendly against South Africa, is not leaving the Red Bulls. The Spanish daily AS reported Friday that Real Madrid is interested in Altidore, who is 18.
“We haven’t heard from Real Madrid, but they would only be the latest team to contact us about Jozy,” Marc de Grandpre, the team’s managing director, said. “We just told the commissioner, Don Garber, and the other owners that we will not agree to any transfer involving Jozy. He’s under contract, and we’re going to keep him.”
De Grandpre acknowledged that the team would not be averse to redoing Altidore’s current contract, in which he earned a base salary of $85,000 this year.
EXPANSION
During his state of the league address on Friday, Don Garber said that St. Louis had moved to the head of a list that includes Philadelphia and Atlanta to become the league’s 16th team. Seattle was announced as the 15th last week; the two new teams would begin play in 2009. Garber, for the first time, confirmed that the Wilpon family, owners of the Mets, are seeking a second team for the New York metropolitan area; and that Arthur Blank, the owner of the Atlanta Falcons, is interested in a team. M.L.S. could add two more teams for 2010.

What did Jhonny exantus become? Is he still too young to enter new york red bulls team? I hope he'll be the next altidore. Otherwise, can't he try another MLS or USL1 team?

Real Madrid has better coaches and Jozy can learn a lot over there. He needs to go now and not a second later. Geovani Dos Santos is in Barca and he's already looking World Class. If Altidore stays in MLS he'll lose ground. Just look at what happened to Adu, he's not even near the player he could have been. He should have taken the Man U deal.
At real he'll learn from and play with the best.
