Scroll Down - Two Web site are reporting that Jean Philippe Peguero loan too MLS San Jose EarthQuakes
With the MLS transfer deadline quickly approaching, the San Jose Earthquakes are in hot pursuit of Brondby and Haitian international forward Jean-Philippe Peguero, a source has told CLS.
Peguero, you may recall, played in MLS for both the Colorado Rapids and the New York Red Bulls, before being sold to the Danish club in 2006. Peguero got off to a fast start with Brondby, scoring twice in three matches, but the second goal proved costly, as he ruptured both the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his right knee.
According to the source, Peguero is healthy again, and has been playing in reserve matches for Brondby. While its unclear whether the deal would be a full acquisition or a loan, the source indicated that the Quakes would not have to surrender any picks or players to the Red Bulls as compensation.
At a height of 6-foot-1, Peguero would appear to be an ideal candidate to fill the Quakes' dire need for a target forward, assuming that the reports of his recovery are accurate. Peguero scored 20 goals in 58 MLS regular season matches while adding one goal in five playoff appearances.
The San Jose Earthquakes are on the brink of officially signing ex- Red Bull Jean-Philippe Peguero, according to several MLS sources. The 26 year old Haitian Striker has played for both Colorado and New York in MLS, and most recently playing with Brondby IF of Sweden. Peguero has 10 caps for Haiti and should go a long way towards bolstering the SJ attack. Expect an official announcement later today or tommorow.
The San Jose Earthquakes quest to acquire Haitian forward Jean-Philippe Peguero has succeeded, a source with knowledge of the deal told SBI on Wednesday. Another source within MLS told SBI that the deal is "almost done' and could be announced later today. (A source close to Peguero has just informed me that the deal will not be announced today).
Scoreless in their first two matches of the season, the Earthquakes are desperate to add some attacking punch and Peguero could be the player to do that assuming he has fully recovered from surgery to repair multiple ligament tears in his right knee. Injuries he suffered in August of 2006, injuries that have kept him out of competitive soccer since.
There is no word yet on whether Brondby released Peguero from his contract or if San Jose paid a transfer fee and completed the deal before Tuesday's transfer deadline.
I would love to see him back...Maybe he want to come back in MLS to get his form back...than transfer to a bigger Club in Europe....I think this is what he want to do....
The San Jose Earthquakes have obtained former Colorado Rapids and New York Red Bulls forward Jean-Philippe Peguero on loan from Danish club Brondby, getting the deal done in time to beat the April 15 transfer deadline, sources have told CLS.
The acquisition is contingent on Peguero passing a physical, but once that is done, the Haitian will join the Quakes although it likely won’t be in time for this weekend’s game against one of Peguero’s old clubs, Colorado.
Peguero’s loan will run through the rest of the MLS season, at which point, San Jose will have the option to purchase his contract, which according to a source runs through 2009.
It was in Denmark that Peguero suffered a severe right knee injury during the 2006 season, rupturing his anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments. But Peguero has been playing regularly with Brondby’s reserves, practicing with the first team, and looks to be healthy again.
That development led to other teams being interested in Peguero’s services, but with the Quakes sitting atop the allocation pecking order, they were able to grab the Haitian first. San Jose will now slide to the bottom of the allocation list.
Peguero joins a side that is still looking for its first goal of the 2008 campaign, and he’s expected to add a strong physical presence to the Quakes’ frontline
Since JPPeguero was loan to MLS San Jose EarthQuakes ... that means at the end of the year, He could go back too Denmark Brondhy or MLS could purchase his contract from Brondhy
The San Jose Earthquakes have landed a proven goal scorer with the signing of forward Jean-Philippe Peguero of Haiti.
Peguero, 26, arrives on loan from the Danish team Brondy where he played well in 2006 before tearing anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his right knee.
"Hopefully he can regain his form," Quakes Coach Frank Yallop said Wednesday.
The team made the deal with Brondy just before the transfer deadline Tuesday night. It won't be official until the transfer is cleared by FIFA, soccer's worldwide governing body. Peguero also must pass a physical next week.
The deal gives Peguero a chance to show Brondy officials he has recovered from his injury.
"We'll see how he does," Yallop said. "It's a good deal for both teams. There's no risk."
Because it is a loan, the Quakes didn't spend allocation money or give up draft picks to secure Peguero, who has been one of Haiti's top forwards on the national team.
The 6-foot-1 striker also scored 21 goals while playing for the Colorado Rapids and New York Red Bulls from 2004-'06.
Peguero won't be available for San Jose's game at Colorado on Saturday night. If he clears transfers, Peguero will join the team for training next week.
The Quakes (0-2) could use help after failing to score this season. Team officials have promised to bolster the front line that features Kei Kamara and Gavin Glinton, unproven strikers with potential.
Peguero, though, won't automatically replace the current starters.
After Tuesday's practice, Yallop had said of his starters: "There's no immediate panic from us."
• San Jose also is interested in Mexican midfielder Zinha, who plays for Club Toluca. But Yallop downplayed the situation because the team is in preliminary stages of meeting with the Mexican star.
Let them know it's Brondby IF that decided for me to go play an a higher level than playing games in the second team and they told me the level is too low for me. They think that MLS level will be much better to play, so they can get me back a 100% for the first team next season. And they also want me to get ready for the World Cup Qualifiers in June. For me this is the right way to get back on track to playing some games and that's the reason why my team decided to send me to San Jose to get some matches and get ready for the World Cup and for the next Danish league season. And say this to Wagneau Eloi, May 18 I'll be there.
