Under-20 Youth: Cuba & Haiti triumph in Caribbean U-20 Group A openers
5/28/2008 - Haiti and the hosts, Cuba began the Caribbean First Round Group A Qualification to the 2009 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship by defeating the Dominican Republic and Bahamas, respectively, at Havana's Estadio Pedro Marrero on Tuesday.
Saint Victor Ultegun scored the only goal for Haiti in the 1:0 triumph against the Dominican Republic in the first encounter.
In the second game, goals by Bárbaro Adrila, Hebiel Cordoves, Lázaro Garcia, Marcel Hernandez and Raynaldo Sturrup led Cuba to a 5:0 victory over the Bahamas.
The Caribbean Group A continues at the Estadio Pedro Marrero on Thursday with the Bahamas taking on Haiti and then the Dominican Republic facing Cuba.
The quadrangular concludes on Saturday in Havana with the Dominican Republic playing against the Bahamas and Cuba hosting Haiti.
The triumphant team from Group A and the victor of Group D (St. Vincent & The Grenadines) will join the winners of the remaining three groups along with four best second-place finishers will advance to the Caribbean Second Round Qualification that will be composed of three triangular groups in September 2008.
The top team from each triangular along with the best second-place team will progress to the Caribbean Final Round scheduled for December 2008.
Trinidad & Tobago will host the CONCACAF U-20 Championship which is tentatively scheduled for January/February 2009. COMPLETE STORY
The CONCACAF Tournament will be held in a single venue for the first time since 1996 and will not only crown a champion age category but will also qualify four teams to the FIFA U-20 World Cup Egypt 2009.

Cuba Wins Opening U-20 Soccer Match
Cuba opened its play Tuesday in the 2009 Concacaf Under-20 Championship Caribbean Qualification with a 5-0 (3-0) win over Bahamas in Havana.
Playing in Group A, which also includes Haiti and the Dominican Republic, Cuba got goals from Barbaro Adrila, Marcel Hernandez, Alberto Palmero, Lazaro Garcia and Hebiel Cordoves at the Pedro Marrero Stadium.
In the earlier match up Haiti won 1-0 over the Dominicans, a deceptive scoreboard as the Haitians dominated and missed a penalty shot. Saint Victor scored the only goal.
On Thursday Haiti plays Bahamas and Cuba faces the Dominican Republic.
