En conflit ouvert avec Guy Lacombe et le Stade Rennais, Sylvain Wiltord est à la recherche d'un nouveau club. Le joueur de 34 ans intéresserait les dirigeants de Monaco, désireux d'engager un attaquant d'expérience.
Sylvain Wiltord imaginait terminer sa carrière professionnelle au sein du Stade Rennais, son club formateur, qu'il a rejoint lors de la dernière intersaison. Mais cette fin idyllique a pris un sacré plomb dans l'aile depuis ces derniers jours. L'attaquant aux 92 sélections s'entraîne actuellement à l'écart du groupe, suite à ses déclarations datant début août. Des propos qui mettaient en cause Guy Lacombe, et les mauvaises relations qu'entretenaient les deux hommes.
Placé sur le marché des transferts, Sylvain Wiltord estime qu'il peut encore évoluer deux ans au plus haut-niveau, et privilégie une piste en Ligue 1. Le PSG et Grenoble se sont intéressés au dossier, tout comme le club américain des New York Red Bulls. Mais dernièrement, l'AS Monaco est entré en contact avec l'entourage du joueur. Depuis le départ de Piquionne vers l'Olympique Lyonnais, Ricardo souhaite enrôler un joueur offensif d'expérience, pour encadrer les jeunes pousses comme Menez, Bakar, Gakpe, Nimani et Adu. Longtemps évoquée sur le Rocher, la piste Tenorio n'a pas trouvé d'issue favorable. Outre ses qualités indéniables, Wiltord ne ferait pas l'objet d'un transfert onéreux. Un faible coût qui ne laisserait pas insensible le Président Jérôme de Bontin, économe depuis l'ouverture du mercato.

Having fallen out-of-favour at Stade Rennais, former Arsenal and Lyon frontman Sylvain Wiltord has been linked with a move to New York Red Bulls according to Le Parisien today...
Suspended by Rennes, it seems inevitable that Wiltord will be leaving Brittany in the next fortnight as his Breton employers cannot afford to keep such a highly paid, yet largely inactive player on the wage-bill.
A very public spat took place between the clever forward and the club in the French media at the end of last week. Wiltord claimed that head coach Guy Lacombe had deceived him regarding the role he would have in the squad this season while the Rennes management have been strangely quiet on the matter.
Inevitably with a player possessing such a calibre, there have been several reports of potential destinations for the former World Cup winner. PSG were hotly linked with the veteran during the summer but their interest has cooled while Grenoble seemingly wish to add the 34 year-old to their growing list of veterans.
New York has also emerged as a potential destination for the Paris-born player, who played 92 times for his country, scoring 26 goals. Le Parisien has claimed that the forward is closely examining an offer from the city’s MLS side, the Red Bulls.
If Wiltord was to make the switch Stateside, he would be following a trail blazed by World Cup ’98 team-mate Youri Djorkaeff, who enjoyed a successful season in the USA to conclude his career.
Major League Soccer is attracting ever-more media coverage as stars such as David Beckham and Claudio Lopez chose to finish their careers there. Wiltord would doubtless add to the calibre of the league while also regaining the first team football he craves.

I got a tip last week that the Red Bulls were interested in Sylvain Wiltord. But since the 34-year-old Frenchman just doesn't fot the profile of what I'd been told the club was looking for _ a young, reasonably-priced pacy support striker _ I didn't follow up on it.
Now comes a report out of France that the club is trying to sign the forward, who is clearly out-of-favor at Rennes. He's been dropped from the pro roster, although he signed a two-year deal a year ago this month and is presumably still under contract at the moment.
I have no idea if this is agent-driven drivel, a classic case of trying to use both the media and MLS (and it's always New York or L.A.) to create a market that isn't there. But with plenty of cash to spend next season, I can only say maybe I won't scoff as quickly as I did earlier, and I do plan on digging around.
