P-au-P, 15 Oct. 08 --- La sélection haïtienne de football joue contre le Costa-Rica, ce 15 octobre 2008, son avant-dernier match dans le cadre des éliminatoires de la Coupe du Monde 2010 qui se déroulera en Afrique du Sud.
Après son faux pas au stade Sylvio Cator (Port-au-Prince), le 11 octobre dernier, contre les Salvadoriens, l'équipe haïtienne affronte ce mercredi son homologue du Costa Rica qui a déjà son billet en poche pour le quatrième tour de la zone Concacaf regroupant les pays de l'Amérique du nord, Centrale et des Caraïbes.
Le match contre le Salvador s'est terminé sur un score nul de zéro but partout. Pourtant, les Haïtiens ont déployé toute leur tactique durant les 90 minutes de jeu à la recherche d'un but salvateur.
Mais les Salvadoriens, qui venaient apparemment négocier un match nul, ont pu tenir tête devant la sélection haïtienne.
Troisième de son groupe avec seulement 2 petits points, Haïti ne joue plus maintenant que pour l'honneur puisqu'elle est logiquement éliminée de la course pour le Mondial sud-africain.
Battue à domicile, le 9 septembre dernier, par le Costa Rica (1-3), la sélection haïtienne devrait prendre sa revanche lors du match-retour de ce 15 octobre, à Costa Rica.
Sa dernière rencontre est programmée pour le 19 novembre face à l'équipe du Suriname qui l'a déjà tenu en échec (2-2) lors du premier match disputé au stade Sylvio Cator.
Derrière le Costa Rica (12 points) déjà qualifié pour la prochaine étape, le Salvador (7 points) a besoin seulement d'un match nul pour conserver sa place de deuxième, synonyme de qualification pour la dernière phase des éliminatoires de la zone Concacaf.
Haïti, qui abordait ces éliminatoires avec le prudent espoir de revivre l'épopée de 1974 quand elle a participé à une phase finale de Coupe du Monde en Allemagne, sort par la petite porte.
Face au Salvador, Haïti jouait avec Jean Zéphirin Dominique (Portier), les joueurs de champ : Judelin Aveska, Frantz Bertin, Bruny Pierre Richard, Lesly Fellinga, Jean-Michel Alexandre Boucicaut, Markorel Sampeur, Davidson Charles, Sony Nordé, Abel Therméus et Brunel Fucien.

El Salvador has 7 points and still have to win against Suriname to clinch the spot. Mathematically, were still alive but ES has a better goal differential than us right now.
Scenarios:
ES loses both games and we win both games:
Haiti advances (8pts) ES (7pts)
ES ties Suriname and Loses against CR; Haiti wins both games:
Decided by goal differential, we would need to win by a big margin, and ES would need to lose by a big margin so we can overcome our goal deficit.
ES wins one of the two remaining games:
Haiti is eliminated regardless of how they do in their 2 games.
