US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will meet with 15 CARICOM nations on September 25
Georgetown, Sep 21 (Prensa Latina) For the second time this year, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will meet with the between her country and that region.
The meeting between Rice and the 15 CARICOM nations will take place September 25 within the framework of the 61st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Dominica´s Foreign Minister Charles Savarin informed that he and his Caribbean counterparts will hold a gathering ahead of that with the US official.
In July, the regional group decided to support Venezuela´s aspirations to be the non-permanent Latin American representative on the Security Council to seek balance in that body´s decisions. The US strongly opposes Venezuela´s entrance into the council.
Rice flew to the Bahamas in March to tackle regional security and drug-trafficking, plus iron out differences over the
overthrow of Haitian former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide in 2004.
Caribbean leaders accused Washington of being an accomplice in the coup against Aristide, and demanded an international investigation of the issue. CARICOM did not recognize the interim regime imposed in that nation in February 2004.
